Volunteer Star Awards for Swimming Stalwarts

Swim Ulster celebrated the contribution of their volunteers with a special awards event at Queen’s University’s Physical Education Centre on Thursday, 3rd June.

As part of Volunteers’ Week in N Ireland, 30 of the most committed swimming volunteers were presented with awards.

Delivering a busy competition programme for 4,000 swimmers in 40 clubs requires an intensive volunteer input – 125 volunteer sessions of  4 hours each are required to service a weekend gala. With 10 Ulster galas per season, that adds up to thousands of volunteer hours. The top 30 volunteers contributed hundreds of hours on their own.

The volunteers were presented with a ‘Volunteer Star’ award by Frank Stevens, President of Swim Ulster, and by Sandra Adair of Volunteer Now – the agency which organises Volunteers’ Week in N Ireland.
