No AccessNI? No Insurance!

Swim Ulster members in N Ireland MUST secure a certificate from AccessNI which verifies that a criminal history disclosure check has been carried out.

Any club which has still not sent AccessNI forms for the appropriate members to the Swim Office by Friday, 11th January will have its insurance cover removed and its swimmers will be refused entry to Swim Ulster galas.

Our member clubs benefit from a wide ranging insurance policy. This cover is contingent on our capacity to safeguard our young people. One of the ways we do this is to require any adult club member who has access to our young people to undergo an AccessNI check.

Swim Ulster is a registered body with AccessNI, meaning we can 'sign-off' application forms.

An application form can be downloaded from the AccessNI site, see 'Resources' on their home page.

Make sure you download an 'Application' form, not a 'Registration' form.

All our members undergo an 'Enhanced' check (section A)

Complete sections 'B' and 'C'.

Leave section 'D' blank.

Complete the 'Position Applied For' (eg coach) and 'Organisation Name' (your club) boxes at the top of page 7 in Section 'E'. Leave the rest of section 'E' blank.

The Club Chairperson/Designated Person can verfify the applicants identity. Pay particular attention to the instructions for proving identity and valid identity documents on page 2. Many forms have been returned because applicants have only supplied two forms of ID, so check the instructions on page 2.

Return the completed forms for your club to Gerry Cappa at the Swim Office, House of Sport, Belfast BT9 5LA.

The process should take 3/4 weeks. The applicant will receive a numbered certificate from AccessNI and a copy will also be sent to Swim Ulster by AccessNI.

Almost 400 Swim Ulster members have already received these certificates. Some clubs have had everyone processed already. Some clubs have processed a few people. Some clubs have not processed any members.

We must ensure that all appropriate people are processed as quickly as possible.

The process itself is now quite simple and Swim Ulster will provide support for our clubs to complete the task.

Friday, 2nd October is the deadline. Any N Ireland clubs who do not comply will not be covered by our insurance and entries for galas will not be accepted.
