Swim Ulster provides opportunities for our most talented athletes to achieve their full potential in the sport. Our swimmers can qualify for our elite Ulster Squad by attaining the appropriate qualifying times for each stoke. The qualifying times are set and reviewed by our High Performance Committee. Members of the Ulster Squad benefit from the highest level of coaching at regular training camps. This coaching is tailored to ensure the swimmers can perform to the best of their ability. Members of the Ulster Squad may be selected to represent Ulster at high profile competitions. The immediate target for our elite swimmers is the Commonwealth Games in India, 2010. We have established a Commonwealth Games panel under Coach Nelson Lindsay and have great confidence that our swimmers will excel at the Games. Progress in the Ulster Squad may lead to inclusion in Swim Ireland's National High Performance Development or Elite Squads, which will provide Ireland's Olympian swimmers for the 2012 Olympics in London. Swim Ireland Director of Performance, Peter Banks, oversees an excellent squad development programme which will bring the best out of our elite swimmers in 2012. Swim Ulster's Disability Swimming Squad provides opportunities for our swimmers with a disability to perform at a high competitive level. Again, as well as benefiting from intensive coaching support, the swimmers have the opportunity to represent Ulster and progress to representing Ireland at the Paralympic Games. |
