In order to ensure the safety of children is paramount, your club should have written guidelines for the following:
  • Safety in the Disciplines of Swimming - (see page 41 of Safguarding Children Policies and Procedures 2010)

This provides details on:

  • procedures for responding to and recording incidents/accidents
  • requirement for leaders to have the appropriate qualifications as required by Swim Ireland

Clubs should have a safety statement, including specific and potential risks attached to the sport and detailing the procedures put in place for safeguarding against such risks.

For recording allegations or suspicions of abuse, there are two forms

One is for use in the Republic of Ireland and can be found on page 58 of Swim Ireland's Safeguarding Children  Policies and Procedures 2010.

The other is for use in N Ireland and it can be downloaded here  Report Incident Form

It is important to plan activities so that they are safely managed and take into account not only the nature of the activity but also the age range and ability/disability of participants.
