Code of Behaviour which Includes the Following

It is likely that your club/ organisation will already be engaged in good practice. However it is essential that everyone involved in your club/ organisation knows what behaviour is acceptable and what is not. The first thing that any club needs to have in place are Guidelines of Good Practice, also know as a Code of Conduct.  This is the cornerstone of any good safeguarding policy.  Without a standard for coaches / parents / children to adhere to you are leaving your club/ organisation vulnerable and open to challenge about behaviour or actions of individuals within your club.

The Safeguarding Children Policies and Procedures 2010 document is the essential reference document for all members and clubs. This includes codes of conduct for young people, parents/guardians, leaders, coaches and teachers and committee members.

This states the committment to safeguard the well-being of all our members with the welfare of children as paramount.

The document describes behaviours to be avoided or that are inappropriate, including anti-bullying guidelines.

The document also provides guidelines on dealing with children with special vulnerabilities (page 45)

As a manager you are also not able to challenge a person if you have your own concerns about the standard of their practice if you have not made them aware of the standards you expect from them. Codes of conduct should include positive statements, statements relating to behaviours to be avoided and unacceptable behaviour
